This year, Tech4home is proudly celebrating its 10th anniversary. Over the years, we were able to quickly progress to an industry leader, multiple design award winner and pioneer in both sustainable production technologies and open standards. As this year 2019 comes to a close, it’s time for us to look back at what we’ve achieved and take a glimpse into what 2020 will bring for us.
Passionate about RCU technology and design
Founded in 2009, Tech4home started with one big goal: Creating remote controls that meet highest design and technology standards while offering a compelling value for money to its customers.
For us, innovation has always been a strong driver. We are passionate about technology and design and wanted to prove the market that high-quality solutions with user-friendly designs can be achieved at affordable prices.
Miguel Oliveira, Managing Director of Tech4home
Success has proved us right: Over the last ten years, we have launched over 250 of remote control families to more than 65 clients from over 40 countries and became one of the leading providers of RCU solutions. For our unique approach in both technology and design Tech4home has won a series of industry awards: Our latest development, the Notus remote control system, a set of easy to use RCUs with intelligent features, convinced the selection committee of the German Design Award 2020. Previous innovations made us win the internationally acclaimed Red Dot Design Award for three years in a row.
Open-standard and sustainable RCU solutions
In addition, we also push forward when it comes to open industry standards and environmental-friendly production. For example, Tech4home has actively supported the work of the RDK consortium, manager of the Reference Design Kit, an open source software platform for the connected home, for the last few years.
This year has also seen the launch of Tech4home’s Green22 initiative aiming at reducing our ecological footprint by using ABS recycled plastic materials and environmentally-friendly solutions for packaging our RCU units. In collaboration with selected customers, Tech4home is also experimenting with biological packaging materials like sugar cane that don’t leave any residues behind.
We are really proud of what we have achieved in such a relatively short timeframe. However, this wouldn’t have been possible without our great team. Their dedication and commitment to our philosophy is what truly makes us stand out.

Challenging remote control technology and mindset
To thank our team for their great work we recently celebrated our 10th anniversary with an event in the island of Madeira. “The end of the year is a good time to look at what you have achieved until now and also to think of what lies ahead”, Oliveira explained.
But what will 2020 bring for Tech4home? In 2020, we will try to keep pushing the boundaries of RCU technology. At the same time, we will continue to broaden our Green22 initiative and work on changing the industry’s mindset towards a modern and sustainable cycle economy.
We are planning to challenge both, remote control technology and mindset.
